We are dedicated to supporting you at every level of your professional development as you progress your career with us. As many of our lawyers are ex-patriates we have a detailed and structured training programme to enable them to quickly become familiar with the differences between the law they have been practicing and the law of the new jurisdiction they have moved to. This is a combination of the induction programme, seminars, memoranda and more tailored one to one training.
In joining us, many of our lawyers make the move to a new legal jurisdiction. As a result there is a strong sense among all our lawyers to help each other out. Both individually and collectively they are happy to field any questions that occur. No question is too straightforward.
Whilst we are in a number of locations, our information services, knowledge management and global practice groups ensure that know-how, training and precedents are shared throughout the Maples and Calder network. In many of our offices the lawyers are practicing the same law, so they are as likely to call a colleague in another office to discuss an issue as walk down the corridor.
Appraisals are formally carried out annually, where development needs are addressed. However in practice this a much more regular process, as our lawyers are encouraged to raise any training or developmental issues they have with their supervising partner as and when it arises. Our approach to the training and development of our lawyers is to be as flexible as possible, as no two individuals have precisely the same needs or develop at the same speed in all areas.
