Maples and Calder's London office opened in 1997 and with over 25 lawyers, it is comfortably the largest offshore office of any firm in the UK. It provides Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Irish and Jersey legal advice on a wide range of topics within a European time-zone. Specialisations include; capital markets, asset and project financing, captive insurance, international equity offerings and listings, mutual and hedge funds, venture capital and commercial and private trusts.
London is a city that needs little introduction and our offices are located right in its centre, next to the Bank of England. Our lawyers elect to work for Maples and Calder in London because of the superb work on offer and the friendly, collegiate culture. The nature of the work our lawyers do in London enables them to work more predictable hours than their onshore counterparts, which allows our lawyers to find a balance between their work and outside interests. In London of course everything is on your doorstep; theatres, restaurants, bars and sports facilities. A short journey will take you into the countryside and a one hour flight will take you into mainland Europe.
In order to practice Cayman Islands or BVI law, lawyers must have qualified in a Commonwealth jurisdiction. Working Visas are required for those not carrying a British Passport, although interested candidates should also check whether or not they are eligible for an ancestral Visa.
